Rachel Thompson is a British author and journalist with over 10 years' experience writing about sex, relationships, and dating culture. Her first book Rough: How Violence Has Found Its Way Into the Bedroom And What We Can Do About It, a non-fiction investigation into sexual violence was published by Square Peg (Vintage) in August 2021. Stylist magazine called Rough "2021's most important book about sex". She is currently working on her second non-fiction book for Square Peg.

Rachel is the Features Editor at Mashable, where she manages the sex and relationships section. She is a leading sex and relationships writer in the UK and she has written for GQ, The Guardian, British Glamour, Stylist, ELLE, The Sunday Times Style, The Telegraph, CNN, HuffPost, The Face, Flo, and many more.

Rough gained widespread critical acclaim and press coverage in The Guardian, HuffPost, BBC Woman's Hour, Refinery29, Bustle, Metro, The Daily Mail, British Glamour, Stylist, Mashable, BBC Radio 4 The World At One, Novara Media’s Downstream, Times Radio, BBC Radio London, among others. 

In 2022, Rachel was a finalist in the Brook and NHS SH:24 Sexual Health Awards as writer of the year. Book events include: a sold-out ‘in conversation’ event at The Feminist Bookshop in Brighton; WOW Foundation’s Shameless! Festival at Battersea Arts Centre; a sex education panel at London Metropolitan University, NHS SH:24 panel conversation for Sexual Health Week 2021, along with myriad other live podcast recordings and panels. 

Rachel’s essay titled “Choosing Myself” was published in Unattached: Thirty Essays On Singlehood, an anthology about single womanhood, edited by Angelica Malin. Unattached, which was published in Feb. 2022, featured writing by Shon Faye, Poorna Bell, Annie Lord, Stephanie Yeboah, and many more.
